The power of Mint

The power of Mint

When I first started making tea for myself, I didn’t know much about mint or its benefits. To me, mint was simply a smell, strong yet calming, fresh yet familiar. One inhale and I felt the tension in my shoulders begin to soften. It was pure, grounding, and it relaxed me instantly.

Out of curiosity, I began asking Meri about mint. Her stories inspired me to do my own research, and what I discovered amazed me. Mint is so much more than a refreshing aroma:

  • It supports digestion and can ease feelings of discomfort after a meal.

  • Its invigorating scent may ease headaches, help open airways, and support respiratory comfort.

  • Mint contains compounds that can help fight certain bacteria.

  • Most importantly for me, mint can ease muscle pain and tension, bringing gentle relief.

Mint’s story goes back thousands of years. It was used in ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. The Greeks even brewed it as a digestive tea. In medieval Europe, mint was valued for both medical purposes and freshening breath. To this day, when we think of freshness, we often think of peppermint or Arctic mint, the affectionate name for the hardy varieties (the natural hybridization is very common in the mint genus) that can thrive even in subarctic and alpine regions. While “Arctic mint” isn’t an official botanical name, it perfectly captures the spirit of this resilient plant.

Over time, I also learned there are countless hybrids of mint, each with its own character and charm. From all those possibilities, I carefully chose my favorite to share with you through Merifemme blends, the ones that felt most alive, most calming, and most true to what tea should be: Spearmint and Peppermint (a natural cross between Spearmint and Watermint).

Mint became more than a flavor for me. It became a symbol of clarity, calm, and resilience, a reminder that something simple can hold centuries of wisdom. That’s why every Merifemme blend begins with mint: because no matter what herbs join it in the cup, mint ties them all together with freshness, balance, and a gentle reminder to breathe.

Just breath.

With love,
Rebeka
