Mint: The Heart of Every Merifemme Blend
At Merifemme, every tea begins with mint — for its clarity, its freshness, and the way it carries the other herbs without ever crowding them. We grow three varieties, and each one does something the others cannot.
Moroccan Mint
Clear. Sweet. Rounded.
Moroccan mint belongs to the spearmint family and is the gentlest of the three. It carries very little menthol, which is exactly what makes it so drinkable — sweet and clear rather than cold. It is the mint of Maghreb tea culture, and in our blends it is the base note everything else rests on. It leaves room for the more delicate herbs: the calendula, the lemon verbena, the primrose.
Peppermint
Crisp. Clean. Cooling.
Peppermint is a natural cross between spearmint and watermint, and the one with by far the most essential oil. That is where the unmistakable cool finish comes from. A little goes a long way, which is precisely why we use it as an accent rather than a foundation.
Lemon Mint
Citrus. Soft. Faintly floral.
Lemon mint — also known as bergamot mint — smells more of citrus than of mint. It has almost none of the cooling bite, and instead brings a bright, slightly perfumed note that sits beautifully alongside lemon verbena and lemon peel.
Why Three
Moroccan mint rounds. Peppermint lifts. Lemon mint brightens. Together they create a base that is fresh without being sharp and full without being heavy — a cup that tastes finished rather than merely mixed.
All our mint is grown, harvested and dried by hand in the Merifemme garden.
