Calendula (Calendula officinalis) – A Flower of Light

Calendula is the golden one. It flowers from early summer until the first frost, opening with the light and closing again in the evening, and it keeps its colour remarkably well through drying — which is why you can still see it clearly in the finished blend.

The taste is mild, faintly resinous, a little peppery at the edges. Calendula contributes less to the flavour of a tea than to its character: the petals turn the infusion a warm gold and give the cup something to look at.

In Our Blends

You will find calendula in MeriGold and MeriZen. It is there for colour, for a gentle floral note, and because a tea that looks beautiful is already half of the pleasure.

We pick the flowers by hand in the morning, one head at a time, and dry them whole.
