Lemon Verbena (Aloysia citrodora) – The Gentle Brightness in Every Cup

Lemon verbena is a shrub originally from South America, brought to European gardens in the eighteenth century. Its narrow leaves release their scent at the slightest touch — bright, unmistakably lemon, with none of the sourness of the fruit itself.

In the cup it is delicate: citrus on the nose, a soft floral sweetness on the palate, and a clean finish that lingers. It is one of the few herbs that tastes of lemon without any acidity at all.

In Our Blends

We use lemon verbena where a blend needs lightness. It brightens without sharpening, and it pairs particularly well with mint and lemon peel — you will find it in MeriPure and MeriZen.

Verbena is one of the more demanding plants in our garden. It dislikes cold and has to be brought inside before the first frost, which is why each harvest stays small.
